Why Utah May Offer A More Unique Variety of Hiking Choices Than Every other State In the US For individuals like myself who enjoy hiking in Utah... regardless of the claims from some rural Utahns... it quickly becomes apparent that the Utah wilderness isn't just for the rich, the elite, or the young. No, not even close to it.
Get out on one of Utah's countless hiking trails and you will soon see people of every age group, sizes, shapes, and ethnic backgrounds. What a fantastic low-cost way to enjoy Utah's stunning scenery.
If you can to walk, you can enjoy hiking in Utah. And backpacking. As well as if you cannot, you will find adventures for you to enjoy also. You don't have to maintain a fit condition. And also you don't need lots of equipment.
rv rentals utahSure, if you want to spend some money, you can drop hundreds... even thousands... of dollars. Expensive shoes. State-of-the-art backpacks. And all the most recent gadgets sold at REI can all accumulate.
But exactly what do you really need? You can get by with a good, comfortable pair of walking or hiking shoes. And little else. I still use a 5'6" walking stick I made after i was a young lad in Canada many years ago.
Should you go on overnight trips, of course the investment is higher. Motels, food and gas can add up. And also the initial outlay for some good equipment. But consider it. After those expenses, what's left?

By today's standards, hiking in Utah is as close to free as you can get. Perhaps you have taken a vacation to Disneyland or Walt disney world lately? Wow! That will drain your wallet.

When I'm on a trail, none of that exists. Everything gets left behind. No TV, no internet, no smartphone. Well, I do have a camera.
Obviously, when i state you have to be minimally fit to hike, I have to qualify that statement. I am fully conscious of the health of the average person in our country. Along with other countries.
Minimal fitness does not mean what it accustomed to. But there really are hikes available for people of just about all physical capabilities. Of course, the greater condition you are in, the greater you'll relish it.
Utah hiking offers unparalleled opportunities to escape. To look up and see a novelty helmet soaring majestically overhead while grasping for something to hold onto to keep your balance.
To listen to a bugling bull elk in the center of a stand of golden quakies within the fall. To see a monster mule deer buck give you credit like it's never seen a human being - that's happened in my experience. To come face to face having a bull moose standing right in the middle of the trail. And never moving.
To listen to... and feel... the wind howl over the Colorado Plateau just like a freight train. To throw a line into a high-country trout stream and pull out a trout that wasn't planted. Maybe visit a mountain sheep walking up the trail towards you with an island in the middle of a salt lake. I have seen that too.
How about sitting on top of the highest peak on that island and achieving a 360 degree look at... what feels like... all of northern Utah.
You may enjoy all this and much more by hiking in Utah.
